When you add the initial cost of the GPS and then the cost of all the add-ons needed to make this get live traffic, it is not worth it. I used the 3-month free trial (in New York area) that came with it and it never worked. The GPS itself was expensive when I got it a few years ago but I wanted to get the most out of the GPS so ordered this live traffic add-on. If they had advertised this as needing the external antenna, I would not have gotten this piece of crap. I was excited when I bought this add-on but I am very disappointed after using it. Simply, this product does not work, at least not without buying the external antenna. Apparently, you must also buy the external antenna for this add-on to work and there is no way I am giving Magellan another red cent.
I will be activating it soon. Looks brand new, I'm sure it is. Haven't had a chance to use it yet. Came in what looks to be the original packaging. I should be using it sometime within the next month or two.
Brand new and it was here in a week. At half the price of Magellan's website. Fantastic.
Live and learn. Reaching some offshore center, the idiots that I talked to were very intent on getting my name, adddress, etc.,etc., but when it came time to discuss the problem, it was obvious that they didn't have a clue on how to help, if they even understood what I was asking them. Driving that route, the little icon remained as is, with the green triangle, checking the text screen on the Maestro about the traffic status, it claimed no reported traffic problems just as I could already see the backup on the highway. So if I am doing something wrong with the programming, I will have to find how how to remedy it myself as Magellan sure as hell doesn't know how to discuss the issue, let alone help me with it. After purchasing the year subscription, I installed it in my vehicle, powered it up, saw the icon in the bottom right corner (which is not there without the traffic kit attached) and tested it out.
If you buy one of these Check with the store you get it from concerning their return policy and use the 3 month free subscription (which should be included with the Traffic Kit) to see if yours works. Calling Magellan customer support gets the same results as if I would ask my dogs the same question. I also checked the signal strength which read a 10/10 and saw that NAVTEQ was providing the traffic information. Making sure that Phoenix was one of the covered areas, I purchased this to help guide us through Phoenix traffic (which is about as bad as any other major city) in the event of a problem on our route. I then listened to traffic reports on the radio, along with verifying the traffic reports on my PC on a site that displayed and verified traffic conditions (also provided by NAVTEQ), routed the Maestro to take me on a route which would guide me right through a listed and broadcast traffic problem.
I can now understand why some of the biggest 'big box' stores are clearing out their Magellan products and selling others instead.
I would get lost less just using the maps in rental cars. With out this traffic kit the GPS unit send you on some stupid routes, some times they are just crazy. I still use it while I wait to buy a new one. I use it just to see the traffic details, they are not even accurate. If you use it to automatically route based on traffic details you will be taking stupid routes, maybe even go around in circles. There are better options. Bought this for my Magellan GPS. I hate it. This kit just adds to it confusion in calculating the routes.
